Is it Over?

I had to start this blog today for none other than an outlet to talk about youth ministry grumblings. Last night I may have hit rock bottom. I set up the Ellen Show for our last class of Confirmation. I had the kids dancing to Stomp (one of my old favs from the college days). One girl even wrote on my facebook account afterwards it was the most fun she has had all year. We did a class on The Gifts of the Holy Spirit and I spent my Sunday afternoon buying gifts that represented Knowledge, Understanding, Wisdom, Wonder & Awe, Fortitude, Reverence, and Right Judgement. I brought them home and wrapped them with pretty paper and bows and gave them these gifts to open and pass around. You wanna know what the gifts were? Smarties, Pretzels, AHA card, Shells, stick of gum, shells, and Dum dums. I talked about the traits of each one and tied the gifts into the teachings...at the end I gave each a sealed envelope. I told them it represented them and they needed to put their "gifts" inside. After complaining that they were sealed...I said "AHA you have to be open to the Holy Spirit in order to recieve the gifts." Great lesson...loved it. But before you compliment me on my creativity I have to tell you that I found it in a magazine about four years ago.

So here's my complaint for the night...I have kids that haven't turned in any forms, made up missed exams, have not done their hours of service and I am over it!!! Come on people I am not a high school teacher...lets do our stuff and get on with it. Also I put name cards on each chair...and as soon as they get upstairs there playing switch a roo...Drives me CRAZY!!! I can't wait till spring break no YM for two weekends in a row!!!! God's Peace!
